Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5-1/2-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer

This rice cooker makes the best rice we have ever had - at least since our travels to Southeast Asia. And despite the fact that this machine *seems* smarter than it's user, it is remarkably simple to operate. The instruction book lacks a little bit in terms of recipes and creativity - but it does a good job giving you the basic idea of how to use this machine. This space age looking rice cooker is a little pricey, so it may be overkill for some - but I love all the features this offers and consider it well worth the price (which is a hundred less than what it is offered for here at Amazon). We eat a lot of brown rice, which is not something that other rice cookers handle well. This one has a setting for brown rice, and cooks it to perfection. Also has a setting for semi-brown rice, sushi rice, porridge & more. You get to pick how soft or hard you want the rice to turn out by using the control panel. Being able to set a timer for having rice ready when we get home from work is handy. This thing also cooks complete meals - definitely get a good cookbook for rice cooker cooking :-) We are expirimenting with many varieties of rice that I normally would have shyed away from, since I could not seem to cook even plain old brown rice properly until now.

It took me 6 months to decide to buy this thing. We were originally contemplating the MYC10 series, but the specific settings for brown rice became important to us. And this one takes up less space on the countertop than the MYC10. We will be eating rice nearly every day now thanks to this machine! I am definitely glad we chose the ZAC10, and would recommend this product. It's a keeper!

used it at least 3 times a week. It has held up to regular use quite well, we have not had a single problem with it. If anything, we are eating at home more than ever because of the simplicity of planning meals ahead of time. One thing that we have learned is that the 5 cup capacity is for using the cooker for white rice. Brown rice capacity is about 3 cups. So if you anticipate using this for more than 3 6 oz. cups of dry brown rice, you might consider steppig up to the 10 cup capacity model ZAC18. One tip for making very tasty rice, use a broth instead of water (or 1/2 and 1/2). If you are on fence about this cooker go ahead and take the leap - it is fantastic! No regrets!

Cuisinart CSB-76 SmartStick 200-Watt Immersion Hand Blender

Well ok, maybe I am not all shook up so much as BLENDED up. I purchased this immersion blender after my older no name brand unit purchased at Wally World died in the middle of blending a pot of hot soup. I like that you can wash the blenders blade assembly in the dishwasher and the stainless steel shaft is not stained like so many of the ALL PLASTIC models. Another thing I love is the power of the unit and the sharpness of the blades; they will reduce a pot of cream of broccoli soup to a smooth consistency in nothing flat.

Oh and when I say broccoli soup folks, I MEAN broccoli soup. I put nearly two bunches of steamed broccoli in my soup and I only chunk it prior to blending with the immersion blender. This blender will puree` the soup to a perfect creamy texture in nothing flat. (Reserve a few pieces of the chunked broccoli to add back to the soup for texture purposes) I have also used it on my potato and asparagus soups with equally great results.If you are looking for an immersion blender with lots of power and a "NO STAIN" Stainless Steel shaft then IMO, you cannot go wrong with this model from Cusinart.

Holy guacamole! I was a disbeliever, but now that I have this Cuisinart immersion blender, I am a True Believer. It is substantial yet quiet, and it works really, really well. It is easy to clean as the blender piece pops right off. I love that I can just place it into the pot and puree my soup right there! Awesome! Carrot soup, cauliflower soup, sweet potato soup have all fallen under my spell with this magic wand. Recommended.

Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt

If you like frozen treats and you like them easily made with very little mess and fuss...for goodness sake get this appliance BUT don't use the recipes in the machine's guide...also pick up Ben and Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream & Dessert Book. We bought this frozen treat maker based on the reviews here and it exceeded our expectations...we've made a number of the recipes in Ben and Jerry's book but I'll describe our first effort because it's representative of all our efforts...here it goes...I threw together some sugar, milk, eggs, and cream for about 5 minutes...placed it in the machine, turned it on, did some chores for 23 quick minutes...two minutes before stopping the machine I added crushed Oreos...I stopped the machine and we enjoyed absolutely GREAT ice cream...clean up was a breeze...that's it! One warning...Ben and Jerry's recipes say a "generous one quart"...that means close to two quarts. I have to say the "problem" mentioned by some of having to keep the freezing bowl in the freezer wasn't an issue...in fact, I'll probably get another bowl and keep it in the freezer as well...they take up VERY little space. Get this machine and enjoy...it's a no-brainer folks!

No crushed ice and rock salt. It uses a double-walled container/bowl that needs to be in the freezer for about 24 hours for best results. Of course it will depend on your freezer settings and how much time it is out of the freezer. Your mileage may vary. I have "gotten away" with 12 hours, but the final product is very soft and it takes longer to make. If after 45 minutes the ice cream isn't ready, then the bowl probably didn't freeze long enough. Put it in the freezer for an hour or two. It will be just as delicious, but will be more dense. It's best to transfer the ice cream to a plastic container with a lid so it won't absorb freezer odors. Ours never lasts long enough for this to be an issue. Store the bowl in the freezer so it's ready for next time.

L'Equip 760200 NutriMill Grain Mill

I've owned a Nutrimill, a Whispermill and now own a WonderMIll and a KitchenAid mill.

I started with the KitchenAid mill. I really like it for a number of reasons. I like that it extends the use of my KA, and that it was cheaper than the rest of the mills. Also, I like being able to produce cracked wheat and rye chops. In both cases, you want the grain lightly broken and still identifiable. In "The Bread Builders" the authors joke that when you make rye chops, you want three pieces out of the mill for each two that go in. Pretty much true. However, the down side is that it's difficult to produce finely milled flour. Like othes here, I use the two pass system.

Which is what led me to the WhisperMill. It ground grain very finely and had little in the way of adjustment. It went from very fine to very, very fine. No cracked wheat. No rye chops. And, it seemed that the flour quality wasn't as good for bread making purposes as I wanted. However, it was able to make flour in a single pass and could be used for extended periods of time.

That led me to buy a NutriMill because of its advertized and much ballyhooed wider range of settings, a larger hopper, and the claim that it was able to handle starts and stops with grain in the hopper, which the WhisperMill does not handle. Sadly, the wider range of settings is not terribly releavant. Instead of going from very fine to very, very fine it goes from fine to very, very fine. No cracked wheat, no rye chops, and still the breadmaking characteristics of the flour seemed lacking.

When I sold the bakery, I sold the NutriMill and sent the Whispermill off to be overhauled - employees had turned it off and on with grain in the hopper a few too many times. By this time, the Whispermill company had died and been resurected as Wondermill, so now my mill is the essentially identical wondermill. Same comments apply as to the WhisperMill.

The Whisper/Nutri.Wonder mills have larger hoppers than the KitchenAid and can be used pretty much continuously. In baking classes, I've seen a friend grind as much as 25 pounds without stopping, except to empty the output hopper. I think some people have modified their Wondermills to feed into a trash can sized hopper.

The common thread through the Whisper/Nutri/Wonder mill is that they are all micronizer mills. The grains are sent into spinning wheels that are turning at around 45,000 rpm and the grain explodes into powder.

Presto 07211 Liddle Griddle

We have really enjoyed our liddle griddle. Its convenient to cook anything. It's especially good for breakfast - pancakes, bacon & eggs. But we have also ended up cooking hamburgers or porkchops on it when the gas grill has run out of fuel. The size makes it easy to clean and store. We are ordering our third griddle shortly - we use them so much that the surface wears out. Now, don't get me wrong - our first griddle lasted about 5 years, the last one about 2 years. Again, we use it all the time. It really is one of the best purchases for our kitchen we have ever made.

This is a great product--we used it in our motel room at Orlando, Florida to cook some of our meals. It saved us at least $150. Food is expensive at Walt Disney World! This griddle heats up quickly and evenly. We fried eggs, pancakes and bacon. We even made grilled cheese sandwiches. No problems. This griddle had been treated very roughly. I packed it in a suitcase and checked it in at the airport. When I went to open the suitcase at our destination, everything was upside down and thrown around. The suitcase had been searched! I was very surprised that the griddle was not broken.

I tested the Liddle Griddle by making pancakes. After the griddle indicated it had heated to 350, I tried the waterdrop test, and the droplets skated around the griddle beautifully. The griddle cooked fairly evenly -- as expected, areas near the heating element cooked a tad faster than the off-element areas, but it was a small effect. It also maintained temperature very nicely, staying hot for back-to-back uses, and not getting too hot when sitting idle for a few minutes while we ate before starting another round of cooking.

Nespresso D120-US-BK-NE CitiZ Automatic Espresso Maker and Milk Frother

I've been with Nespresso for almost twenty years and the love relationship is still going strong. This new machine has a great look and the milk frother is a REALLY clever invention. It's so quiet you'll wonder if it's actually running. The only negative about this machine is the frother fuzziness with certain types of milk. You are going to have to figure out which local brand of milk works best for you. In my experience, organic vs. non-organic, or whole milk versus skim milk, has nothing to do with it. One whole milk in one brand will work great while in another it will not foam. But when you find the right milk, this machine makes the thickest foam known the mankind. Note that it's a different kind of foam than steamed foam. It's drier than steamed foam and perhaps a tad less creamier, but still wonderful. Also cleaning the frother is a little awkward since you can't submerge it. But easy enough to get the hang of it.

For many years have quite happily enjoyed drip coffee, Starbucks and had even purchased a Keurig machine not too long ago. When I got the Keurig, people commented that it was really good coffee, and I agree.

However, after a trip to Europe, I found the coffee I was brewing at home, and purchasing at Starbucks now tasted watered down and bland. I LOVED the espresso and cappuccinos I had while in Europe and longed to have that here. I remembered having a lovely latte at a friend's house while visiting a bit ago, and that it was made from a Nespresso machine. After doing some online research I found there was a local store that sold Nespresso machines so I went in to check it out. The owner of the store is from Italy and was very excited about the quality of the espresso from the Nespresso machine. She happily showed me how the machine worked and made me an espresso to taste it for myself. I was impressed by the thick, beautiful crema, and even better, the espresso tasted great. I was hooked! I purchased the Citiz Silver Chrome Espresso Maker with Milk Frother and have been loving it every day since (about 3 weeks now). The taste of the espresso and lattes I now make at home bring me back to my happy memories of European mornings with friends and I have not stepped foot inside a major coffee seller since I brought this. This system makes getting that much needed morning latte very fast and easy.You do have to order the pods directly from Nespresso, however I placed an order at 7am on a Tuesday, and I had my pods delivered on Wednesday afternoon. They said it would take 2 business days, and I assumed they meant 2 business days AFTER I placed my order, but apparently they counted the day I ordered as one of those 2 days. I was really impressed by the speed of delivery.

PUR PBSS Push-Button Refrigerator Water Filter

It seems there are a LOT of misuderstandings in these reviews. If you own a Sears refridgerator it IS a Whirlpool, or Kitchen Aid, or whatever else with a "Kenmore" name plate on it. Sears doesn't make their appliances and they purchase appliance from varios companys and put their "Kenmore" brand on it. I have a Whirlpool fridge, Whirlpool dishwaher, and GE microwave. They all say Kenmore and the stainless stell matches perfectly. A Sears sales rep will tell you who makes the specific unit. This is true for Kenmore washers & dryers as well, all appliance. Secondly, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Kenmore, etc. do not make the filters. Sears, Whirlpool, etc. sell the filter with their markings on it. PUR make the filter. This is not a cheaper replacement for the filter, it is the same filter. I have been using PUR filters bought on-line for 5 years now and it is the same filter that came in the refridgerator when I bought it. The only thing to keep in mind is that the "universal PUR Filter", that fits all push button, in the grill units, does not have the same filtration as the the specific PUR filter that comes with the fridge. For example the "Universal" filter is about $26 on Amazon and my fridge came with a PUR 4396710 which cost about $32 on Amazon. Both will work, but the $32 unit filters out about 11 types of impurities, the $26 unit is 4 types. I buy the 4396710 to protect my 2 year old and wife. What is $7 more when it's your family's health. They are about $50 each at Sears.

Nesco American Harvest FD-61WHC Snackmaster Express Food Dehydrator All-In-One Kit

I love this thing. The trays and screens are currently soaking in my tub with some soap so I can dry my latest round of backpacking food for the summer.

I bought this product for a month-long backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada. I'd previously eaten freeze-dried food, but honestly - the stuff isn't that good, is expensive, and there's never enough. On this trip I ate home-dried fresh fruit (it's hard to find good dried bananas, pears, and pineapple - but easy now!), spaghetti with delicious meat sauce, chicken alfredo, rice and beef and beans, and Thai yellow curry (including homemade yellow curry sauce!) - all due to the dehydrator. I've dried meat (fresh and canned - just cook the fresh first), fruit, vegetables, sauces, beans, pasta, and more on this handy little device, all without a hitch and with delicious results. My meals received major compliments from other hikers, envious of my dehydrator. I've found it great for buying bulk produce from the farmer's market and having dried peaches for months (or weeks, depending on how fast we eat them!), dried herbs, and more.

The device is easy to use - a temperature gauge (which requires a little adjustment since it doesn't go all the way in one direction, but trivial to work around) makes food drying easy and safe - especially for meat. The two solid trays are great for sauces and beans and beef; you can fake more with saran wrap and the other trays. The screens aren't that useful for keeping the dehydrator clean, but are great for smaller things (dried frozen vegetables, smaller dried fruit) and are indeed easy to clean. My only complaint is that the trays themselves are hard to clean; they take up a lot of dishwasher space and are annoying to scrub in the sink, but signs show that the latest technique of tub washing is easy and effective. The fact that the heating element is on the top prevents it from getting dirty (don't want to soak the motor!) and it distributes heat evenly (although you may want to rotate the trays occasionally for best results). The bottom solid tray is washable too. And, as an added bonus, it still fits in the original box, which has gone through two moves safely!

EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer

Bought the Chefs Choice 610 food slicer, then saw the Waring FS150 (similar but a Professional model with larger motor) for $30 less an hour later. Bought that one also with intent to look up reviews online and decide at home. After reading reviews (great reviews for Chefs Choice, awful reviews for the Waring) and instruction manuals on both (still can't believe you can't run the Waring for more than 10 minutes at a time and the poor design for cleanup) decided to keep the Chefs Choice. Used it to slice roast beef, swiss cheese and baked turkey breast. Worked extremely well on all and the unit is extremely easy to use. Cleanup took about 5 minutes total. Unit is a little larger than I would have liked, but all the food slicers have similar dimensions. Well worth the extra $30.

I got my Chef Choice Model 610 food slicer a couple weeks before Christmas in anticipation of making my Christmas dinner prep easier. And what a nice addition this food slicer was. It is easy to set up, easy to use, has adequate safety features and cleans up in a jiffy. Because I wanted to use it for large ham slicing.... I did order the Ham Slicing Blade extra from the factory which cost about $30 which I used to slice my Christmas ham instead of the serrated blade that comes with the product.This is an excellent slicer.

I purchased this slicer after my old one (17 years old and $50 new) died. I'm not sure if this is a really nice slicer or my old one was just a piece of junk. I opened it up and put it to work today with 10 pounds of semi-frozen venison. I set it to slice thin for jerky and let it go. Even though the inside of the roasts were still frozen, the slicer worked great. The uniformity of the thickness of the slices was very good. My old slicer couldn't keep a uniform thickness at all. The motor never got hot. Clean-up was very nice. I had it taken apart and cleaned in 6 minutes. I make alot of jerky throughout the year and am looking forward to using this slicer. At this time, I will place it in the 5 star category for price paid, however, it is new and I've only just begun..... I will add comments as time passes on.

Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator

This is one of those items that does exactly what it says it's going to do and does it without a fuss. It's simple to use (even I haven't screwed up anything with it yet) and works extremely well. So far I've used it to make both beef and venison jerky and both have been delicious. This is a fairly large appliance and if you are counter space challenged you won't want to leave it out all the time. But it works so well and the things that come out of it are so yummy you won't want to put it away. The outside cleans up easily and the drying trays themselves require a little more effort. The mesh design of the drying trays (think air circulation) gives a lot of surface area for things to stick to so they just require a little more work. Be warned, when you use this your home will be filled with the delicious aroma of whatever you are making. Be prepared for salivating dogs that are unwilling to leave the kitchen and fantastic dehydrated food.

I have to say I am impressed with this machine. I made the mistake of buying a Ronco dehydrator and threw it out after 2 uses. I just got done making 10lbs of beef jerky and I have to say it came out delicious. Only took about 4 hours to actually dehydrate! The only negatives I see with this machine is A. No Timer. It would be nice to have it shut off automatically. And B. While the fan does evenly distribute the air to all 5 trays, It doesnt distribute it evenly along the trays. Cuisinart ICE-21 Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker

As this product had not been reviewed yet, I read several reviews for the Cuisinart ICE-20 Ice Cream Maker before making my decision to purchase this product. Many comments about the ICE-20 mentioned that the ice cream is the consistency of soft serve; some reviewers said it was too soft. I did not find that issue with the ice cream I made with this ice cream maker. I turned my freezer to the coldest setting and froze the bowl for 7 hours. I could not hear any liquid moving in the bowl at that point, so I assumed it was solidly frozen. I made the Simple Vanilla Ice Cream recipe from the booklet that came with the machine. After about 20 minutes, the ice cream was nicely textured and creamy. It wasn't as hard as the packed ice cream you purchase at the store, so I guess you might say the consistency was somewhere between soft serve and store-bought: firmer than soft serve, but not as firm as hard pack. As reviewers of the ICE-20 pointed out, if the ice cream was frozen as solidly as hard pack in the machine, it would be difficult to remove it from the container.

The ice cream is simply wonderful. It has a fresh, pure taste that outshines anything I could purchase from the store. I bought it mainly because I wanted to have control of my ingredients. I want to use organic products as much as possible and I want to experiment with soy ice creams; I have thought I might want to get away from dairy products altogether.

This product was listed as the newest version of the ICE-20 and as an upgrade that improves upon the ICE-20 while still keeping its popular features. I don't know what the upgrade consists of, but I can say that in 20-25 minutes, I had really excellent ice cream that I thought was the perfect consistency. (Since I posted this review, a commenter here has noted that the upgrade consists of a new paddle design, reducing the processing time by 25%, according to the manufacturer.) After freezing it for a couple of hours it was firmer and I liked it at that consistency, too. I was thinking about how great this ice cream would be with warm apple pie, because tasting it really is like tasting fresh vanilla cream. But we're a couple of months away from apple pie season! This product couldn't be simpler to use, and I think it will pay for itself fairly quickly in savings over the cost of premium purchased ice cream. And it just tastes better.

KitchenAid Pro Line Series Waffle Baker

Finally a waffle maker that works. I have tried 4 different waffle makers in the past two years and found nothing that compares to this waffle maker. This machine does not have a temperature control (which is no problem), one must rely on the timer alone. I was sceptical at first, but found the temperature to be correctly set. However, the timer only goes to about 5 minutes so, I do not use it. I cook my waffles for exactly 8 minutes, 3 minutes longer than the timer allows - there is an option to go "timerless". I use a separate timer, or watch for the steam to stop. Both work well, but I do cook my recipe for 8 minutes. Different recipes may work well for the built in timer, but not for me. I have also adjusted my recipe to have the consistency of a heavy cream. This allows me to fill the waffle maker to about a 2/3 capacity by pouring the batter in. Once doing this, I turn the waffle maker over right away and do the other side, as this machine has two sides and cooks two at a time. I have learned to flip this machine right away as this distributes the batter in the waffle chamber. Having light batter allows the batter to flow and fill the top and bottom of the baker. The result is a very light and crispy waffle every time.

There were some comments on the web about this baker being heavy. This machine is not heavy, but it is well made. It is the solid construction that I like to see. My last baker, another brand, was only a year old when it shorted out and exploded. I had company that morning and that became quite the center of attention. This new machine is well made and I do not worry about it as the quality is extremely good. It is also a very good looking unit. I am choosing to leave it out on the sideboard as it has a quality look to it and is a nice appliance to show off.

Whirlpool 4396710 KitchenAid PUR Push Button Cyst-Reducing

I have a Kenmore refrigerator form Sears that I bought about a year and a half ago. Kenmore is actually made by Whirlpool and although the filter this replaced was labeled Kenmore, this is the exact same filter but labeled Whirlpool instead. I looked it up on the Sears site and they wanted $50 for the same filter. The price is a steal and even though it says 6 months I used it for over a year since I have soft water in my house and only one person. My fridge has a 6 month built in timer that goes from green to orange to red when the 6 months is up. I thought it might be based on actual usage, but it's not, because it went red at exactly 6 months and I use far less water than most other households. I have no idea why more time would harm a filter, as far as I'm concerned it's just a marketing tactic to get you to buy them more often then needed, like oil changes every 3,000 miles.

We have a KitchenAid refrigerator that will take either this cyst reducing filter or the fast fill filter. I think that the refrigerator came with the fast fill but according to the manufacturer it can use either. The filter makes the water taste much better than tap water. We live in Portland, Oregon and the water is supposedly pretty good from Bull Run, but I have had to replace this filter every 4-6 weeks since September 2009. I thought maybe it was temporary sediment in the water that was clogging the filter, but there is no visible sediment in the regular tap water. I wanted the added filtration of this filter but having to replace it so frequently is annoying. When the filter is new, water flows normally from the water dispenser. After about 2 weeks it starts to come out more slowly and by about a month to 6 weeks it starts to slow to a trickle.

KitchenAid Blender Coupling 9704230

My wife's aunt broke the piece by pushing down on the blender while it was running. This may be true on cheaper unit that may be unstable but this was a bad thing to do on the KitchenAid unit. It ended up breaking a few teeth on the coupling. I thought I'd have to dump the unit and buy a new one but some research pointed me to this replacement unit. Replacing it was a piece of cake. Take a flathead screw driver and point it at a 45 degree angle against one of the left over teeth on the angled side and hit the screw driver sharply with a hammer. You need to do it such that when it hit, the piece will turn "clockwise" which will unscrew it. It's a reverse thread so it's NOT lefty-loosy and righty-tighty but the opposite. One or two hits will loosen the coupling so you can unscrew it and screw on the new one.

I was ready to give up on my kitchen aid blender. noticed that the coupler drive (thing a magiggy is what i called it before) was breaking a part every time i used my kitchen aid. i have had the thing since 2004 and never had any problems. so i when it was tearing apart i thought it was over and put the base in the recycling bin. i started using the web to look up new blenders and then amazon saved my kitchen aid. i saw that the part could be replaced and went to the recycling bin cleaned my old blender and pried off the old coupler ( watched a youtube video on how to) and when my new coupler came in the mail popped the new one in and it worked like new. I am not one to leave reviews, i normally just read what others say. But right now my friends and neighbors look at me funny when I start talking about my new vacuum because I can't stop with the accolades. I did read reviews on this vacuum, but they do not do it justice, this is a bada$$ piece of machinery. I have medium pyle carpet, and I can turn the brush off and it still pulls at the carpet! When you turn the brush on, it almost feels self propelled as the brush pulls it forward. I caught the end of a scarf(by mistake) and it sucked the entire thing into the hose before the brush shut off- looked like a cartoon it was so fast! with the canister 3/4 full, it still picked up loose cat litter and pet food. My carpet did not look dirty, but the first 5 feet I went back & forth I went over twice filled the canister a quarter of the way. My carpet runners have never been so clean, they look refreshed, newer even. My 20 yr old son commented on how much better our carpet looked and also said that it felt better, softer, "fluffier". My daughter made the smart-a;ec comment that I sound like an infomercial! My last vacuum sucked because it didn't suck, this vacuum doesn't suck because it sucks better than any other I've tried.
