Having just completed a signficant weight-loss program (lost 100 lbs this year), I have been researching healthier eating options while I can still begin to enjoy some of my "old cravings", and rice is at the top of that list. I began looking into rice cookers and bought the Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook, and that research led me to this and other similar products. I decided that for my needs I would spend the extra money for this apparently-superior product.
Well, I took delivery on it yesterday and put it right to work. I sauteed up some onions and garlic and chicken sausage, and then some brown basmati I had on hand (1/2 of a Zoji cup for a single serving), and then loaded the mixture up into my new Zoji NS-LAC05 along with just over 1 Zoji cup of chicken broth (given the mixture I concocted, I decided to measure the mixture instead of using the bowl markings), and set it to cook while I went downstairs to my apt. gym for an hour on the treadmill.
When I returned to the apt., the rice was still cooking but already smelled heavenly. About 30 minutes later the cycle completed, and I let it sit on warm to steam another 10 minutes or so as recommended in the Cookbook. Served it up, and yep, you guessed it, it was the best darned plate of rice I've ever eaten...perfectly cooked and with perfect texture.
Before retiring to bed for the night, I followed the recommendations of several reviews right here and prepped my first serving of Steel Cut Oats (which I purchsed the other day in advance of receiving this unit), with 1/2 Zoji cup of oats, 1.25 Zoji cups of water, some brown sugar and ground cinnamon, and a handful of raisins. I set it to complete the next morning (today) for 5:30AM breakfast.
